So I have come across a recent discovery which I want to quickly share. I have always been agnostic, leaning towards the atheist side of things. But my classes have slowly changed my view. It started with cell biology last year but this year in neuroscience I find that the complexities of the subject (in particular the areas of neuron development, growth, and activity/interaction) make evolution almost implausible. These incredibly complex mechanisms in a single neuron, let alone our entire brain, is supposed to come out of pure random chance and evolution? I understand that there are clear evolutionary precursors such as K+ channels clearly evolving into Na+ channels, but even the "basic" K+ channel is insanely complex. And I understand that eons ago the Earth was this primordial goop that was the ideal condition to randomly synthesize amino acids, and experiments have proven this. But by random chance these polypeptides form and then interact with each other to give rise to us? It's crazy.
An atheist having a crisis of faith from taking science courses. Whodda thunk it?
