And this is entitled the "Superfluous Space Scene" with a whole lot of random crap. Made entirely in GIMP (no photographs used!!!). It's mainly just a practice of a bunch of things - planets, starfields, auroras, and cool looking lines coming from the star... Not to mention this image is huge and...

I realize that Calvin usually makes artwork and I usually write random crap. But let's mix it up a bit. I got really bored at work - first real CG piece I've made, think it turned out alright (well actually it's pretty bad...). Made the planet and did the "deconstruction" all in GIMP.

It's really amazing what digital art programs are capable of these days. If your scene is not too complex, near-photorealism is fairly easy. This piece was put together in only a few hours.

I'm getting there. Slowly (very very slowly) but surely. It's a planet. A nebula. A practice. Oh how I wish Calvin will get rid of the minimum character for pictures.
